While Mary the Mother of God is revered and celebrated all year long, May is a special month to celebrate the “Queen of Heaven.” ● May has been Mary’s month since the medieval period, when May was considered the end of winter and the start of a new season of growth. It is a time for new beginnings and the chance to begin with gratitude and devotion. ● There are many reasons Mary is considered the “Queen of Heaven.” She is the mother of the Son of God, his perfect follower, and so is considered the crown of creation. And, of course, she is the most important woman of our faith and our spiritual mother. ● Our parish May Crowning ceremony will take place next Sunday at the 9:30 am Mass.
On Saturday, May 14 at 8:00 pm our choir Schola Cantorum, as part of their 30th year anniversary celebration, will appear in concert with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra in a stirring performance of the Verdi Requiem. The concert will honor longtime Sacramento's iconic restaurateur Biba Caggiano, and is dedicated to the people of the Ukraine and all oppressed countries. The event will feature four distinguished soloists from New York’s Metropolitan Opera. All proceeds from the Verdi CDs will go directly to support Ukraine. Concert and ticket information are available at sacramentochoral.org
Members are invited to attend our next meeting on Friday, May 20 at 10 am in the Parish Hall.
